Preston Horse Watch Preston Police are exploring the possibility of creating a Horse Watch in the Lea area of Preston . This will be achieved by contacting all our local Equestrian Centres and offering them the opportunity of joining the scheme. What is Horse Watch? The watch will be a partnership between the Equestrian community and the local Neighbourhood Policing Team. It will encourage vigilance and communication, not only between individual Equestrian Centres, but also with the police The very nature of the Equestrian business means that there is a great deal of capital spread over a large expanse of land. This is often portable e.g. stock and equipment and therefore can be easy to steal. While Equestrian property cannot be totally impenetrable, simple steps can be taken to reduce the risk of crime and the measures need not be costly. The aims of Horse Watch Reduce opportunities for crime to occur. Strengthen community spirit so that everyone works together to protect their area. Improve communication between the equestrian community and the police Report any suspicious incidents.
How will we set up the Horse Watch Scheme? Canvass all the equestrian centres in the Lea area to establish the level of interest for a scheme Arrange an initial meeting with the members and the police so that crime prevention and all aspects of Horse Watch can be discussed. Establish a Newsletter; use e-mail alerts and the Neighbourhood Watch website, to keep all members of the scheme informed of any problems/suspicious activity. Encourage the use of marking kits to mark all types of property at the Equestrian Centre. Promotion of the Equestrian Watch Scheme through lamp post signs, which can be designed specifically for the Preston Horse Watch Scheme. The possibility of regular meetings to discuss issues and promote better working practices across the area.
If you are interested in joining this scheme please complete the attached slip and send it back in the pre-paid envelope. If you have an e-mail address please add this to allow the police to share crime prevention advice/suspicious activity around the scheme quickly. If you wish to discuss this further please feel free to ring me on the number below.
